Since the need for support for homeless families does not end when they leave the shelter, Shelter House also supports families who are living in transitional housing. Shelter House currently operate three transitional housing programs:
-
Off-site program: This program consists of five apartment units in Fairfax County, three of which are owned by Shelter House. Families are assigned to a case worker to work on personal goals designed to help them move out of transitional housing after a 12 month period. A "rent" savings model has been incorporated into this program. Families pay into their own savings through a 100% reimbursement of their monthly program fee.
-
RISE (Reaching Independence through Support and Education): In collaboration with Fairfax County Department of Family Services, Shelter House provides supportive services to families in seven transitional housing units throughout the county. Families can take advantage of this program for up to 24 months.
-
STRIDE (Success through Responsibility, Initiative, Determination, and Employment): Shelter House, in collaboration with Christian Relief Services, provides supportive services to an additional three families in transitional housing. Participating families benefit from this program’s focus on training and education, while receiving supportive services and attending various programs held at the shelter.
